  I took a policy out with a premium of nominally £18. Checked just recently and it had almost doubled. I had made no claims, no changes. Nothing. I contacted them and they said they had to hike the rate as they couldn't find a cheaper insurer for me. Which is odd as gocompare and moneysupermarket both found LOTS of comparable ones within minutes. I lost track of the number of times in "customer care chat panel" I asked for their formal complaints procedure. After giving up on that I asked for the Insurance Ombudsman contact details. After requesting it for I think the fourth time and saying that I THOUGHT they were legal obligated t provide details if asked it went dead. She had gone. Before trusting these shysters, use one of the comparison websites - I tried three Gocompare, moneysupermarket and another one that I cannot recall. They ALL listed the same quotes (certainly all the cheaper ones were identical) and not only did my premium NOT need to increase but it has gone down slightly from what it used to be. Do NOT use Budget - the name is misleading. They will hike your rate, they will NOT notify and they work on the basis that if you do not object (hard if you do not know it is increasing), then you have agreed. Small print in the T&C apparently says that you are obliged to allow them to renew your cover and you if the price has doubled or trebled - then tough. Ghastly experience with this dismal team. It is going to the ombudsman and I have kept full copies of the "online help" which clearly shows my repeated requests for complaints procedure being totally ignored. Not surprising that they have been fined for their malpractice enough times already.
